In many ways it depends on the structure of your website and the control that you have over it. Let’s discuss this in detail to really find out why people use blogs for business.

No Space on your site!

Your current site’s linking structure and layout may not be able to accommodate additional pages (let alone new pages being added every week, or every day). So in this case there is no actual space on your website, therefore, a blog is the solution for expanding content when it does not fit into your website.

You are not in control of your site!

Another reason you may need a blog is that your site may not be under your control! Depending on your situation (and who is running your site) you may not have the ability to go in and create pages on your whims. In this case a blog would give you free reign to create as much content as you want!

You don’t have an actual website

For those businesses who don’t have their own website they can simply take a WordPress blog and with the right theme/template make the blog look like a standard website. This is a cheap and easy alternative to having a website built. However it isn’t without its drawbacks. Although it will make adding content easy, any kind of editing or customization of said WordPress website will be difficult and only doable by a professional programmer.

Other reasons?

Some businesses who don’t have the three above problems (lack of control , space for new content, or no website at all) do not need a blog at all as they can just keep adding pages to their main website to their heart’s content!

You may not in fact need a blog.
