Break out from the ‘Box’

Posted by

We have all heard the phrase content is king but how can you apply it to a business owner’s website? All you can really put on a website is:

1)      home page
2)      about us
3)      portfolio
4)      services/products
5)      contact us

Isn’t that right?

No! Not at all! If you are finding yourself in this predicament then you need to break out of the box and think of some original ideas.

A website needs to minimally make a new page every week in order to stay fresh, and yes you can have a photo gallery or a testimonials page and keep it current but how about some pages which are: 1) interesting / engaging, and 2) contain relevant keywords to your business?

What Can I Write About?

That depends on your business, let’s pick out a few different types of businesses and see what we can write about:

1)      Computer Repair

  1. DIY upgrades
  2. Parts catalog/encyclopedia
  3. Computer reviews
  4. Software reviews

2)      Flower arrangement

  1. Types of flowers
  2. Types of arrangements
  3. DIY arrangements
  4. History of flower arrangement

3)      Home renovations / Contractor

  1. DIY guides
  2. Maintenance tips
  3. Project portfolio with testimonials
  4. Recommended materials & contractors

4)      Website hosting/design

  1. Design tips
  2. New developments in web industry
  3. Software reviews
  4. DIY website maintenance guides

5)      Restaurant

  1. Menu items
  2. Events
  3. Awards
  4. Recipes

As you can see there is a recurring theme of ‘DIY’ and ‘tips & guides’. This is always an excellent form of content and it can be used for almost any type of business.

Conclusion

Use the above list for inspiration and get writing with one new page a week! And as always, if the task is too daunting or you just plain don’t have the time, contact us, and we’ll do it for you.
