How to Get People to + Your Google Plus Page

Posted by

Last week we discussed how to create a following of people who are interested in your kind of company to which you can then engage. This is but one action in your Google Plus Playbook. You also need to people to ‘plus’ your business page. Let’s discuss how you can make that happen.

Why do I need Google Pluses?

Google has not come out straightforwardly said that getting pluses will boost your website’s search engine rankings but Matt Cutts of Google has gone so far to say that Google is paying more attention to a website’s social media presence and being that Google Plus is the new big boy in social media it would behoove one to get in on the action.

Put the Google+ Button on your website

The expected and traditional way of getting pluses is putting the good old button on your website and hope that visitors will click on it (thousands of visitors per day). This tactic is only useful if your website gets a high amount of traffic, otherwise your clicks will be few and far between. It is however still recommended as every bit helps.

Post in Google+

Dramatically more effective is making quality (emphasis on QUALITY) posts in Google Plus. People will then ‘plus’ your post and some will go the extra mile to visit your Google Plus page and then ‘plus’ your page itself.

Where do I make these Quality Posts?

If you have a large number of people in your ‘circle’ then you can just make them on your Google Plus profile page, otherwise you need to find a place where there are lots of users who will be able to see your posts. Namely: communities.

Find communities that are related to your business and make your posts there. For instance if you are a florist then join a flower community. If you are a contractor, join a DIY community. If you do computer repair, join a computer community.

However, don’t limit the communities you post in to just those relevant to your business. Remember this is ‘social’ media. So feel free to post anywhere you want, even movie communities. Doing this helps to ‘humanize’ your company and gains interest.

What kind of posts?

It is a well known fact which you will soon discover yourself if you haven’t already that posts which have a photo or video get the most attention. Therefore whenever you post make sure there is a photo or video to go along with your text.

But don’t just choose any old photo. The photos you post should have a certain ‘wow factor’ in order to get attention and subsequently, pluses. This will require taking some time scouring the internet to find good photos related to the community you will be posting in.

Slim Picking’s?

Google Plus is still pretty new so there are not as many communities as you would imagine. Take this to your advantage and be the first to create the community and reap the rewards as it grows.

What’s next?

We’re glad you asked! For there is still more to do with your business Google Plus page; specifically Google’s proprietary feature: “hang outs”. Read next weeks article to find out how to use them to promote your business.
