Making a name for your business online

Posted by

Trust is an invaluable commodity, for business it can on a basic level mean the difference between making a sale or not or even more seriously whether one’s business expands or declines. It is an empirical fact that customers choose vendors who they trust or believe in. Indeed if one could improve his company’s repute it would be a boon to business! Well you can, and you can do it via the web.

Quite simply… you can build trust with the general public by becoming an authority within your field of products and services, thereby being the opinion leader and guiding their actions.

How do I do that?

Becoming an authority online is easier than you think, thanks to the never-ending list of new social media websites and their tendency to ‘form opinions’ of people. In this article we will focus primarily on Google Plus, however these are by no means the only websites you can use for this purpose.

Google Plus: Communities

Google’s answer to Facebook is gaining steam and becoming more popular by the day, as it continues to add new features and mature. The item we are most interested in regards to this article is the Communities feature. Let’s discuss how you can use this.

First you will need to make a Google Plus account if you don’t already have one. Second you will need to make a ‘new page’, which would be your business page. Once that is done (and verified) we can begin.

What you will need to do is search through the communities and see if there are any existing communities, which match the industry you are in. For instance if you are a landscaper you would search for landscaping/home improvement communities. If they exist you need to join them and start posting valuable content there regularly (no spam please).

The web abounds with valuable content you can post in these communities. Just a quick Google search and you can find tips and helpful information (or videos), which you can post in the community. As you do this people will ‘like’ your Google Plus page and you will gain some repute.

Next, you need to create your own community and start inviting EVERY person from all other related communities to yours. In your new community you can post whatever you want but you should keep it limited to relevant and helpful (or relevant and fun) information that members can use.

To summarize:

1)      Posting useful, relevant, interesting content in existing communities
2)      Inviting people from said communities to yours
3)      Posting useful, relevant, interesting in YOUR community

And so by jockeying back and forth on these three activities you can end up with a very large following and become an authority on the world’s newest and fastest growing social network-Google Plus.

Google Plus: Authorship

Google Authorship is a key component in making a name for your company and becoming an authority in your realm/field. It is how you can showcase your own original content to the web and let them know that YOUR Company wrote it.

To find out what it is and how you can use it please read our article where we cover it thoroughly:  What is Google Authorship
