Ideas for more content

Posted by

As you may have noticed over the past twenty years, there is a pattern or standard you can say of the minimum number of pages a website should have, as well as standard types of pages. For instance every website has a minimum of 5 pages and this five typically include:

1)      home page

2)      about page

3)      services/products page

4)      contact page

5)      photo gallery page

While this certainly is sufficient to communicate everything you need to about your business to your customers (otherwise it would be different and would have evolved into a different list of pages), it is not sufficient if you wish for your website to rise high in the SEO world (unless of course you are spending a significant amount of money on other promotional avenues in order to make up for the lack of content).

What pages do I need?

In order to make inroads into the search engine result pages you will need to producing a considerable amount of content. How many pages exactly? Well hold on to your hats, from an Advanced SEO perspective you would need to get 50 pages of content on your site as a good foundation to start from. This may seem daunting and overwhelming however if organized into particular sections it is much more digestible.

Breaking it down

Let’s see how we can make that number ‘50’ more digestible by being creative:

Testimonials – 10 pages

Yes, that’s right you’d better get busy and collect up testimonials from your customers. It is a very easy and requires you to write no content. You just need to have your employees survey your customers and then type up the responses. This will result in good PR for your company as well as content which has good keyword distribution and relevancy to your website.

About us – 5 pages

1)      General description

2)      Mission statement

3)      Complete history of company

4)      Staff/Team members

5)      Community involvement (If you don’t already have some kind of community involvement activity stay tuned for our future article on ‘Your 2014 PR Campaign”

Products & Services – 10 pages (minimum)

Here is where you will find a wealth of content, as whatever industry you are in you will have at least 10 services you provide or 10 products which you sell. Each one is deserving of its very own page with unique text and photography

Videos – 1 page

FAQs – 2 pages

Free estimate – 1 page

Specials – 1 page

News & Historical News – 10 pages

Without a doubt you have within your records at least ten items that would be worthy to put in your News page. The fact that it is old and already happened is irrelevant, it is still content and just needs to be placed in chronological order on your news page. Each news item should have its own page and should be written in either the third person (as in a press release) or in the first person for a more intimate feeling.

Articles – 10 pages

Think of this as the conversation the business owner or technician/salesman is having with a customer, explaining the benefits, the possible downsides, background information, etc of a particular product or service. You have tremendous freedom and latitude in writing articles. They can be about seasonal information related to your business and products, tips, do it yourself, etc.

Reviews – 10 pages

As the public look up to your business as its opinion leader it is only natural for you to take a position and review products related to your business. It provides a fairly large potential for content which is also keyword relevant.

Others: Newsletters, historical promotion flyers
