Twitter Promotion Strategy

Posted by

As the end of the year approaches it is a good time to reevaluate one’s social media strategy and refocus in order to reaffirm successful actions and to ensure one isn’t engaging in any that are needless. Let’s discuss some tried & true tactics which are empirically correct.

Frequent Updates

Twitter users see hundreds of tweets on a daily basis, effectively burying your tweets in a sea of noise. You can combat this simply by posting more often (at least twice a day). You can even do repeat posts (however you should space them out so they are not back to back). Remember that twitter posts should be very short (about 80 characters), therefore making frequent short posts can be done easily.

Share Content from Others

Many social media marketers will implore you to under no circumstances post other content than your own, however you will miss out on much engagement and interesting content if you follow this arbitrary rule. Due to the fact that social media is social (and not a megaphone for your salesmen), it is totally natural for a company to share interesting or fun things which are trending on Twitter which have no relevance to their company. Things like: great quotes, amazing photos and funny videos are fair game for you to share & retweet on your business Twitter page. Doing so will instantly accrue more engagement.

Followers of your Competition

When tweeting you don’t want your posts to just go to anyone. You want them to reach your target audience, this is vitally important for the sake of turning followers into leads. They can be acquired actively by finding your competitor’s Twitter pages, and one by one, following their followers. Approximately 50% of them will then in return follow you back, thereby expanding your target audience. This is something that Twitter has which Facebook does not.

Tweets are not a Megaphone

Remember that social media is not advertising. Therefore robotic posts which are sent to the masses, with no concept of actually communicating with actual people will not see much engagement. Keep the tone casual and human but still professional. If you are having difficulty with achieving this tone then by all means research and see what other companies are posting.
