Increase your Traffic with a Business Blog

Posted by

Why do so many business blogs start and end with a lonely ‘hello world’ post in WordPress? While there are many reasons, one of the main ones is lack of ideas for posting and that is what we will focus on in this article.

Difference of Blog and Facebook Posts

You don’t necessarily post the same things on your company’s blog page that you would in your business Facebook. By clarifying the types of posts you can do for each it will help to relieve any obfuscation.

Posts for facebook are much more informal and less rigid, which is not surprising as it is ‘social’. You can post about what your employees ate for lunch, photos from ‘wacky Wednesday’, your thoughts about competitors’ products/services, etc. Business blog posts on the other hand should integrate with the company’s website and be a notch more formal.

Business Blog Post Ideas

Although this list is by no means exhaustive you could narrow your business blog posts down into three categories: tips & helpful info, reviews/articles of industry related items and lastly news.

Tips, Helpful Information, Tutorials

You have the opportunity to position yourself as an authority in your field by posting continuous helpful articles regarding your company’s area of expertise. This not only gives you great content for the search engines but also creates a following for your articles, and a builds a reputation for your company; showing the public that you know what you’re talking about.

The simplest way to go about doing this is to make DIY tutorials that customers can use for their benefit (especially on topics involving installing/setting up/maintenance). You can also make articles about the most common difficulties customers have with a product, and describe the various things they can do to remedy. Lastly you can make FAQ’s for individual products based on the questions you most often get from customers.

Reviews

There is a tremendous potential for material in reviews. You should not limit yourself to just reviewing the products in your arsenal. You should expand to review the products of your competitors, and those of the whole industry. Even if your company doesn’t sell products and is service based, you can still review products that are industry related which customers will purchase. An example of this would be a restaurant which does reviews on particular sauces available in food stores, or a cleaning service company which does reviews on cleaning products.

News

This includes anything new, not just New Product/Services Releases. Posts about news can include any of the following:

1)      New buildings acquired / shops opened
2)      New employees hired
3)      Goodwill activities done
4)      Testimonials of satisfied customers
5)      Staff achievements (employee of the month)
6)      Staff training/certification achievements
7)      Special offers
