3 Ways to Monetize your Website

Posted by

For those looking to get something more out of their websites, (than leads, etc) there are ways to make your site make money for you. People do it every day; however it does require effort, intelligence and time initially to get it operational.

Aside from the obvious methods of putting up banner ads, selling products and placing Google Adsense units there are many other models you can employ in order to monetize your website.

Affiliate Links

Quite possibly the simplest and most maintenance-free method is to join an affiliate program (Say for instance, Amazon, Expedia, etc), Where you sign up and are given an option of various link banners which you then place on your website. When users visit your website and click on said banners they will be taken to that website; should they purchase anything after that you will receive a percentage. It is that simple.

It should be noted however, that different affiliate programs offer different percentages for the clicks.

Mailing Lists

The value of a good mailing list can never be overstated, especially if the individuals on the list are interested in your products and services, thus being potential customers. You can acquire a mailing list of potential customers by promoting a newsletter on your website which contains valuable information. After accruing sign ups you can then send them said valuable information and promote your products and services.

Premium Content

Not everything has to be free on the web, indeed there are things that have such value that people will and do pay for it. This however requires some thought, intelligence and thinking outside of the box. Premium content can include professional how-to videos or complete courses related to your industry, e-books, mailing lists (as in selling your mailing list to other companies), and so on. It is highly valued information which is not easily found. You should ask yourself: “If I was a potential customer, what would I want and or be interested in most/ what do I need most?” And that will give you a clue as to what kind of premium content you could offer.
