Doing Market Research Online

Posted by

When creating content, products or ads, the research phase is crucial. Because you don’t want to create something that no one wants, or where there is no demand. You want to create something that people are searching for and which will be consumed easily.

Often times we think we know what people want, and sometimes we are right, but many times marketers and businessmen are not, and miss the boat.

Buzz Sumo

If you want to see what content is the most viral on the internet, Buzz-Sumo is an excellent free resource. It allows you to search for any variety of keywords or keyword phrases and see how much they are being shared on the web’s main social media platforms:

1)      Facebook
2)      Twitter
3)      Google Plus
4)      Pinterest

Buzz Sumo does have premium packages which have more features but you can use the free one, and still get good data.

Yahoo Answers

Good old Yahoo Answers offers marketers and business men a WEALTH of deep personal information. Likes, dislikes, pain-points, uncertainties, etc. It requires lots of digging but you can end up with a fairly good general understanding of the majority of the consumers in your niche. If you had a catering business for instance, you could search through all of the questions people ask about catering businesses, and so you would know your audiences’ concerns.

Of course this is free.

Survey Monkey

If you’re trying to find out specific customer pain points, and be totally certain about what percentage experiences those sometimes a survey is the only tool you can use to get this data. It is far more focused and deeper than digging through Yahoo Answers.

Survey Monkey does allow one to create surveys with up to 100 responses and 10 questions for free.

If you want more responses and other feature then you will have to pay a minimum of $20 a month.
