How to Link Campaign

Posted by

For some webmasters/search engine marketers, getting links can sometimes feel like an insurmountable task, which is understandable as it is one of the few things that is actually out of your control in that you must rely on others to put links on their websites to your pages. While this is true for some websites, there are indeed some links you can directly make yourself. Let’s begin.

Social Media

The quickest way to get a link to your website is to log in to your business’s Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/Google Plus, post some text or a pic and paste in a link to your site. Although these links don’t have much ‘juice’ to boost your site in the search engine rankings, they will give your website ‘social media juice’, which Google has started paying attention to and assigning importance. If said post is interesting enough people will share/retweet, thus creating a greater impression on Google.

Press Releases

Although you can’t post a link directly on CNN/USA Today/Fox News you may be able to get their webmasters to do it if you do an online press release which catches their attention. Therefore spending a couple hundred dollars for a press release is a very wise investment. However, you’ll have to ensure your release is sufficiently ‘newsy’ or compelling if you want it to be carried by the big boys.

Forums

Although its not recommended anymore by SEO experts, one can in moderation make non-spammy posts in forums with links to their websites. However it must be done as if it was a real and relevant post, with the purpose of helping the thread. Anything less will get your post deleted and account closed by the admin.

Yahoo Answers

Similar to posting in forums yet much more natural and less suspect is making posts on yahoo answers with subsequent links for further information. This is only workable if your website has information that is relevant to the poster’s question. One should note however that Yahoo has taken measures against link spamming, requiring one to reach a certain score of points before the links he posts become actual links. Until one reaches that point threshold his links will be plain text.

Online Directories

Although not as popular as they used to be Online Directories still serve as a frequently used and trusted source of quality websites. Directories are easy to submit to and typically have a fast turnaround time (for your link to be posted). However some may require a lengthy review/verification process (such as DMOZ). Whatever the case may submitting your website to directories is fast and should be done in as many as possible.
