Tumblr for Business

Posted by

Before we discuss how you can use growing social media platform Tumblr for your business and promotion, for those who don’t know what it is let’s illuminate.

What is Tumblr?

According to their website: “Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything. Post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos from your browser, phone, desktop, email or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors to your theme’s HTML.”

Essentially Tumblr is a customizable blog with many elements of social networking integrated into it, for sharing photos, text and video. In other words it is like Facebook but with the difference that your pages in Tumblr are open to the web, you don’t have to be a user of Tumblr to view the pages, therefore your Tumblr content is indexed by the search engines. Tumblr also allows you to customize the layout elements of your page (if you know HTML), which in this sense is reminiscent of Myspace. Premium blog designs are also available if you want to pay a fee.

Who uses it?

Over 50% of users on Tumblr are 25 and under, so if this is your demographic then you would do well to promote via this platform.

What should I do with it?

The formula for Tumblr is similar to other social media platforms: engage users by posting, commenting, replying, and following others. Additionally visual content is king as it is with Facebook, with over 50% of posts on Tumblr being photos.

While its easy to say: “you need to post lots of images for your Tumblr”, since we’re talking about using Tumblr for business and not personal use, you probably won’t have the option of posting cute pictures of cats or babies in vegetable costumes. Therefore here are some usable ideas for image posts on your Tumblr:

-Shots of your product being packaged.
-Stills of your product in use.
-Candid pictures of your services in action.
-Images of your company employees working or having fun.

Save time

Tumblr does have the feature of tying with your Facebook so that all your posts on FB can be replicated on Tumblr to save you the trouble of duplicating your efforts.
